Association of Jewish Libraries Ontario
President's acceptance speech
The beginning of a new year is a good time to reflect on where we are, where we’ve been and where we’re going. Under Zina Glassman’s leadership, and with Bernie Katz’s dedicated work as Treasurer, the AJL membership has remained stable. Our excellent newsletter has been published on time, in print and online, thanks to the hard work of our Vice-President, Anne Dublin.
The chapter presented excellent programs during the last two years. They included both a program about the National Library of Canada’s Lowy collection (with Ottawa member Cheryl Jaffee) and our first program to be held in Ottawa—a program about Jewish comic books (presented by myself).
During the next two years, I hope all our members will continue to enjoy the benefits of membership and that our chapter will be able to attract new members. I’m confident that the newsletter will continue to provide us with the news, opinions and practical information that we have come to expect in each issue. I look forward to fabulous programs that will both educate and fascinate.
In 2003, Toronto will probably be the host city for the National AJL Convention. That gathering will bring together the best and brightest of our international members and will enhance the profile of our chapter.
There’s a lot of work that needs to be done in the coming years. I feel fortunate to have this opportunity to work with all of you as we try to accomplish our goals.
Steven M. Bergson, President
